Volunteer

Objective of Program: To enrich and extend the amount and variety of services we provide with the assistance of volunteers – by acting as a liaison between programs, community and volunteers.

This encompasses the recruitment, training and placement of volunteers who have been interviewed and understand their role. Work experience and practicum students find opportunities to become familiar with the workplace setting.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Meals on Wheels

Our volunteers deliver kindness though daily social contact while informally monitoring the health and well being of the clients we serve. Volunteers use their own vehicle to deliver supper time meals 5 days a week, excluding statutory holidays. Time commitment is about 1.5-2 hours.

Keep in Touch

We all have wisdom and interests to share.  Won't you brighten someone's day and share yours?

With the Keep in Touch program, you can make a big difference in the lives of community members feeling lonely and socially disconnected by giving them weekly phone calls.  You can call from the comfort of your home and your own schedule.

Community Volunteer Income Tax Program

This program provides service to seniors and families with modest and simple tax situations.

The CVITP is a collaboration between community organizations and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Community organizations host free tax preparation clinics and arrange for volunteers to prepare income tax and benefit returns for eligible individuals.

How can you help?

  • If you have a basic understanding of income tax, you can prepare returns for taxpayers who have modest income and a simple tax situation. This will allow them to maintain uninterrupted access of their benefit payments. Basic computer knowledge and operation is also needed.

What do you get out of it?

  • Giving back to your community
  • Gain new skills or improve existing ones
  • Do work that is valued and recognized
  • Looks great on a resume

Intergenerational Programs

Various programs are provided which involve both seniors, youth and children.

Between Friends

This is an intergenerational program connecting seniors with local students to share knowledge and develop local friendships.

Precious Connections

Precious Connections involves activities that engage seniors and parents and children (0-5 years).  The program will result in creased empathy, improved social and emotional wellness, and positive relationships with seniors and children.

Early Childhood Development Program Support

The FCSS Parent Program staff are always seeking local residents to provide an extra set of hands during our parent/child programming.
