Senior’s Week is June 3–9, which means it’s time to celebrate the seniors in our lives! It is important to recognize seniors’ contributions to communities across Alberta. Here are just a few ways to appreciate seniors in your community:
- Offer assistance to seniors with daily tasks such as grocery shopping, cleaning, yard work, and appointments.
- Spend quality time with seniors to ensure that they feel valued. This can be through frequent phone calls, visits, or activities.
- Volunteer for organizations that provide supports for seniors.
- Support accessibility in your community. For example, help a senior with their yard work to ensure that they can get to and from their homes safely.
- Ask a senior for advice. They have a lot of knowledge that can come in handy.
Seniors’ contributions are vital for our communities. FCSS offers a wide range of programs and services for seniors so they can continue to live well in rural Alberta. See below for details:
- Annual Seniors Conferences: Which provide seniors with an opportunity to learn, laugh, and connect with resources in their community.
- Workshops: Presentations are provided on a wide range of prevention topics to support everyday wellness.
- Information and Support: Seniors, families, and caregivers can receive information on a variety of resources including personal directives, Alberta Seniors benefits, and special needs assistance for seniors.
